PRP hair restoration
Few things make us sadder than when we begin to lose our hair. We first see it in little bits and pieces — our hairline is receding, or we see a bald spot on the back of our heads begin to grow, but eventually we’ll have to admit that we’re losing our hair.
There are a variety of ways to supplement hair loss. Shampoos and add-ins are some of the most popular non-invasive methods. There are also invasive methods such as hair plugs and transfers, but they seem only to work half the time. What a lot of people don’t know is that there are minimally-invasive methods out there which use the body’s own properties to boost hair growth.
PRP for hair restoration is a revolutionary way to use the most important aspects of our body to our own benefit. PRP for hair restoration is now available at Windermere Dental and Medical Spa.
WHAT IS PRP?
PRP is short for Platelet Rich Plasma, which is a key ingredient in our blood. You may have heard of donating plasma at your local blood bank; they do this because of the platelets within it. Platelets are essentially uncommitted cells that haven’t decided what they’re going to be yet. When platelets are introduced to certain areas of the body, they turn into those cells.
PRP FOR HAIR RESTORATION
Platelets are secured by taking a blood sample, spinning it in a centrifuge to separate its components, and collecting the platelets. Platelets can be used for a variety of reasons, one of which is for hair restoration. The blood sample we take is no different than you’ll see at your primary care physician’s office, or if you were donating blood.
Once the sample is separated, a member of our medical team will reintroduce the platelets into your scalp through a process of microneedling. Microneedling and injecting PRP works on two levels. The first level is it introduces the platelets into your scalp. Once the platelets recognize where they are, they turn into the cells which prompt the hair follicles to grow more hair. The second way the microneedling works is by creating “mini fractures” in the scalp, causing more blood to flow into the scalp and restore the skin.
PRP is a great method for restoring hair because the chances of the body rejecting the sample, or becoming allergic to it, is virtually zero. Because the platelets come from your own blood, the body is already familiar with it.
Losing a once full head of hair can have a detrimental effect on someone’s well-being. They may feel ugly and become embarrassed. PRP for hair restoration works by providing a natural means for hair to regrow.
